Arja Sinikka Koriseva (born April 21, 1965 in Toivakka near Jyväskylä ) is a Finnish singer. She became known as a tango singer; today her repertoire includes evergreens, Finnish pop and sacred music.

Life

Arja Koriseva comes from a musical family. Her parents were both active in the church choir, the harmonikka player Erkki Friman is Arja's uncle. Arja and her sister Eija played with the Peräkyla Boys group from 1978 in youth hostels, holiday camps, restaurants and similar places. When the group broke up, Eija and Arja became members of the Kastanja group.

In 1983 Arja Koriseva went to the Jyväskylä Polytechnic , the music conservatory in Central Finland, to study singing. The following year Kastanja became the backing band for the singer Marjo-Riitta Nieminen, alias Marjorie. Arja continued her education and in 1985 went to the Hämeenlinna College, where she trained as a teacher for Finnish and sports until 1989. In the year of her graduation, she took part as a singer in the Tangomarkkinat , the oldest tango festival in the world, which she won and which marked the beginning of her career as a singer. Numerous albums and tours followed, which took her not only through Finland, but also to Canada, Australia, Jordan, Great Britain and Switzerland. With the Belgian singer Helmut Lotti she recorded the duet "All My Life: Näkemiin" in 2001 for the Finnish version of his album "Helmut Lotti goes Classic III".

In 1991, 1992, 1993 and 2004 Arja Koriseva took part in the national preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest , but never won. In 2000 she appeared as Eliza in the musical " My Fair Lady ", from 2005 to 2006 she took on the role of Maria in the musical The Sound of Music . She also worked as a voice actress, lending her voice to the character “ Pocahontas ” in the Finnish translation.
