Arjoch
Arjoch is the name of three people in the Old Testament .
etymology
The Hebrew personal name אַרְיֹוךְ 'arjôkh , German ' Arjoch ' probably comes from Hurrian . In cuneiform texts it appears as Ar-ri-wu-uk or Ar-ri-yu 8 -uk . The Septuagint gives the name in Gen 14,1 LXX and Jdt 1,6 LXX as Αριωχ ariōch and in Dan 2,15 LXX as Αριώχης ariōchēs , the Vulgate in Gen 14,1 and Dan 2,15 as Arioch and in Jdt 1 , 6 as Erioch , the Samaritan Pentateuch finally as ' Aryābok . The meaning of the name is unclear.
The Targum pseudo-Jonathan offers an Aramaic derivation: "the tall one (אָרִיךְ arich ) among the giants".
Arjoch, king of Ellasar
Arjoch is King of Ellasar according to Gen 14.1 EU and 9 EU . In Gen 14 EU a war of kings is reported. " Amrafel , the king of Shinar , Arjoch, the king of Ellasar, Kedor-Laomer , the king of Elam, and Tidal , the king of the peoples against Bera , the king of Sodom , Birscha, the king of Gomorrah, Shinab, the king of Adma, Schemeber, the king of Zebojim, and the king of Bela. ”The battle was fought in the Siddim valley .
In Genesis Rabba , Ellasar is identified with Greece.
Arjoch, chief of the bodyguard
According to Dan 2.14 EU, Arjoch is the chief of the royal bodyguard of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar .
Arjoch, king of Elam
In Jdt 1.6 EU a level is mentioned which is named after an Elamite king Arjoch.
