Arkadi Wiktorowitsch Bachin ( Russian Аркадий Викторович Бахин ; born May 8, 1956 in Kaunas , Lithuanian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian Army General a. D. He was Deputy Minister of Defense from 2012 to 2015 .

Life

Bachin studied from 1973 to 1977 at the Moscow Higher General Command School. He then served as platoon leader, company and chief of staff, as well as deputy battalion commander of the Southern Armed Forces of the Kiev military district. In 1987 he successfully graduated from the Frunze Military Academy and was deployed in the Central Asian Military District as commander of a motor gun battalion, as chief of staff and deputy commander of a motor gunner training regiment and later as its commander. From 1992 to 1995 he was the commander of a motor rifle regiment and later commander of a motor rifle brigade in the Siberian military district.

In 1997 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and from 2000 continued his career as commander of the Russian Trans-Caucasian military base and as commander of the 42nd motor gun division in the North Caucasian military district. He was then used as Chief of Staff and 1st Deputy Commander of the Group of Russian Armed Forces in the Transcaucasus. From 2002 to 2004 he was Deputy Commander of the North Caucasian Military District. From 2004 he commanded the 41st Army in the Siberian Military District. From January 2006 he became the deputy commander of the armed forces of the Siberian military district and from July 2007 his first deputy and chief of staff. In December 2008, he was appointed commander of the armed forces of the Volga-Urals military district. From July 2010 he temporarily took over the duties of the commander of the armed forces of the military district West and on October 28, 2010 he became the commander of this military district. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation of November 9, 2012, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. On February 20, 2013 he was promoted to army general.

In connection with the war in eastern Ukraine , Bachin was accused in February 2015 of having been directly involved in the deployment of Russian forces to Ukraine. For this reason he was put on the sanctions list of the European Union. On November 17, 2015, he was released from military service and moved to the state-owned company Rosatom .
