Arkadiusz Mucharski (* 1853 in Warsaw ; †  September 3, 1899 there ) was a Polish musician, caricaturist and painter.

After a musical training at the Warsaw Conservatory , where he a. a. with Ignacy Paderewski became friends, Mucharski first played several years trombone in the orchestra of the Warsaw Teatr Wielki before, disappointed by this employment, left the orchestra again and entirely his to death continuing work dedicated as a cartoonist and painter.

Mucharski largely acquired the necessary skills himself as an autodidact . In addition, there was his extraordinary talent for perceiving the ridiculousness of everyday life, coupled with the ability to capture them in drawings. Mucharski's work in the following years was extremely productive: his drawings and caricatures appeared in numerous humorous and satirical magazines in the country such as Kolce , Kuryer Świąteczny and Mucha .

In addition, Mucharski also painted watercolors , mostly with genre scenes from urban and rural life or with Warsaw originals . Among the best-known works of Mucharski from this area of ​​his work are: Wesele krakowskie ( German  Die Krakauer Hochzeit ), Ex-człowiek ( German  Der Ex-Mensch ) and Emeryt ( German  Der Pensioner ).

Mucharski was buried in the Powązki cemetery in Warsaw.

Different name spellings

Since Warsaw was part of the Russian division of Poland until 1918, the following deviating spellings can be found for the artist's first name in literature: "Arkadjusz" and "Arkadysz".
