Arkona (also Arcona , Small Qingdao Island , Chinese  小 青島  /  小 青岛 , Pinyin Xiǎo Qīngdǎo ) is an island near the Chinese port city of Qingdao . The name goes back to the German colonial times.

geography

Arkona is only a few hundred meters from mainland China, with which it was connected by a road. There is a small park on the wooded island. The highest point is about 20 meters. It offers visitors a glimpse of the Qingdao skyline .

history

The island became known to the Germans as Tsingtau , which they transferred to the European city on the opposite coast. The Arkona Island lighthouse was built here around 1904 and is still a landmark of the island today.
