The Arctic Institute Rocks ( Russian Скали Арктического Института Skali Arktichesky Instituta ) are a group of rocks in Queen Maud's Antarctic land . They rise up 13 km north of the north-western island mountains on the northwestern foothills of the Wohlthat massif .
They were discovered during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar researcher Alfred Ritscher . The mapping was carried out between 1960 and 1961 by a Soviet Antarctic expedition, which they named after the Arctic Research Institute of the USSR in Leningrad .
