List of apple varieties

Arlet is a small to medium-sized, rounded to tall variety of the cultivated apple (Malus domestica) . It was created in 1958 at the Eidgenössische Forschungsanstalt Wädenswil from a cross between the varieties Golden Delicious and Idared and has been marketed since 1984.

'Arlet' on the tree

The tree shows strong growth. The yield starts early and is then regularly high. The variety is very susceptible to apple scab .

The apples of the Arlet variety are versatile; they are just as suitable for cooking and baking as they are for fresh consumption. The shell has a yellow base color and a strong, bright red cover color. Variety is typical russeting in the stem bay. The pulp is white to cream-colored, fine-celled and very juicy. The taste is typically pleasantly fruity and slightly sour.

Harvest time is early to mid-October. The apple is ripe for consumption from November to February. It will be marketed until around the end of June; this is possible because it can be stored in the CA warehouse until the end of May. Even at room temperature, Arlet can be stored for a long time without becoming soft; because the apple forms a layer of fat at room temperature that prevents the fruit from drying out.
