Armand de Gontaut, seigneur de Biron (* 1524 , † June 26, 1592 near Épernay ) was a French general and statesman, since 1577 Marshal of France and Mayor of Bordeaux . He was one of only seven Marshals General of France .

Biron came from an old Périgord family based in Biron Castle in the Dordogne. He fought, although inclined to the Huguenots , in the religious battles on the side of the court in the battles of Dreux , Saint-Denis , Moncontour and was defeated in 1569 by Charles IX. to the Grand Master of Artillery and from Heinrich III. Appointed Marshal in 1577. From 1577 to 1581 he was the predecessor of Michel de Montaigne mayor of Bordeaux .

After Henry III. He joined the assassination with great zeal to Henry IV , rendered excellent service to him and fell in 1592 during the siege of Epernay.

His son was Marshal Charles de Gontaut, duc de Biron (1562-1602).
