Armengol (Rouergue)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Armengol or Ermengaud († after July 935 ) from the House of Toulouse was a son of Odo , Count of Toulouse and Gersende. His father gave him the county of Rouergue and the Quercy in 906 , where he ruled until his death. His brother was Count Raimund II of Toulouse, with whom he ruled the extensive family estates in the first half of the 10th century.

In a deed of donation from the year 930 in favor of the Vabres Abbey , he bore the title of comes (count), in a similar deed two years later he was named princeps (prince), based on Gothien , a title that his family enjoyed in the 10th Century.

He and his nephew Raimund III. together with the Duke of Gascogne paid homage to the French king, but this did not limit the influence of the crown on the French south - King Rudolf and Ebalus , Duke of Aquitaine fought together against the Vikings and a little later against the House of Toulouse in the fight for supremacy in the Southwest.

Armengol and his wife Adelaida had at least two sons and two daughters, with documents indicating that he had other sons in addition to his two heirs. The eldest son was Raimund I , who inherited Rouergue, the second was Hugo, who received Quercy. His daughter Richilde married Suniario , Count of Barcelona , his daughter Adelais married his brother Sunifred II, Count of Urgell .
