The place Armeni ( Greek Αρμένοι , ( m. Pl. )) Is a village and namesake of the municipality ( Greek Δήμοτική Ενότητα Αρμένων ) in the municipality of Apokoronas on the island of Crete . The municipality of Armeni had 3,255 inhabitants in 2011 according to the census. Avocados, oranges and olives are grown in the Armeni area. The parish seat was in the village of Kalyves .

The village of Armeni itself has 345 inhabitants on an area of 4.126 km². It has several springs and is very rich in water. This is where the Xidhe brook rises and flows into Kalyves. It is located at the foothills of the White Mountains , 16 km east of Chania and 3 km inland from Kalyves on the north coast of the island, in the middle of the fertile farmland of the Apokoronas . There are several taverns in Armeni, which attract tourists and locals in summer because of their Greek evenings . The large village church is dedicated to Agios Nikolaos .

The village of Armeni was an independent rural community (kinotita) from 1925 to 1997 and was merged in 1997 with Kalyves , Macheri , Stylos , Ramni , Kares and Neo Chorio to form the urban community (dimos) . This congregation was absorbed into the new Apokoronas congregation on January 1, 2011 , in which it has since formed one of six parish districts.
