Armidale Dumaresq was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 4,235 km² and had about 24,000 inhabitants. In 2016 it was part of the newly created Armidale Regional Council .
Armidale Dumaresq was in the northeast of the state about 550 km north of Sydney . The area comprised 83 hamlets and hamlets, including Armidale , Dangarsleigh, Dumaresq, Hillgrove, Jeogla, Kelly Plains, Lower Creek, Wollomombi and parts of Black Mountain and Ebor. The administrative headquarters of the council was in the town of Armidale in the west of the LGA, which now has about 20,386 inhabitants.
The area is located in the New England region and is characterized by agriculture (wool production, cattle breeding). Armidale is a university town and home to the University of New England, the oldest university in Australia outside of any of the major cities. Several national parks are in the region and made tourism an important economic factor for Armidale Dumaresq.

The Armidale Dumaresq Council had ten members elected by the residents of the LGA. Armidale Dumaresq was not divided into districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
