Arne Sørensen (chess player)

Arne Henning Sørensen (born November 19, 1947 in Ølgod (West Jutland)) is a Danish chess player . In 1983 he became European champion in correspondence chess .

Sørensen studied mathematics in Aarhus , after which he worked as an EDB consultant. He started correspondence chess in 1967. In 1974 he won the Danish correspondence chess championship. In 1983 he was the winner of the 19th European Correspondence Chess Championship with a result of 13 out of 14.

Sørensen was also a strong close chess player. In the 1970s, he played in the 1st division, the top division for Danish teams, and took part in the European Club Cup in 1976 with Vejlby-Risskov SK .

Arne Sørensen is not related to the winner of the 20th European Championship, Bent Sørensen .
