Arnfinn Bårdsen

Arnfinn Bårdsen (born June 11 or July 11, 1966 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Bårdsen studied law at the University of Bergen , where he graduated in 1992 with a master's thesis on the European Convention on Human Rights . He then worked as a doctoral student at the University of Bergen, where he gave lectures on human rights and at the University of Tromsø . From 1994 to 1995 he also worked as an assistant judge at the District Court of Jæren . In 1999 he was at the University of Bergen with a dissertation on the individual legal approaches to the European Court of Human Rights Dr. iur. PhD. After receiving his doctorate, Bårdsen became an assistant professor at the University of Bergen. In 2003 he became a judge at Gulating lagmannsrett , the court of appeal for the provinces of Rogaland , Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane, and of which he later became president. In 2008 Bårdsen became a judge at the Norwegian Supreme Court . He held this position until 2018. He was also a member of several commissions, including those on the reform of Norwegian civil procedure law.

In October 2018, Bårdsen was elected to succeed Erik Møse as representative of Norway as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights. He took up his term of office, which is expected to last until 2027, on January 1, 2019.
