Arning
Arning is an originally Westphalian family name . It is a patronymic , i.e. the derivation of the first name of a family father, in this case from Arnold or one of the short forms such as Arnd. Intermediate stages such as Arnding or Arnolding are attested. The name has meanwhile also spread outside Germany and Europe. Because of the way in which names are formed, the descent of all Arnings from one ancestral family can be excluded.
