Arno Goßmann (* 1952 in Wiesbaden ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and full-time mayor and head of social and environmental affairs for the state capital Wiesbaden.

Life

Goßmann grew up in Wiesbaden-Kloppenheim . After graduating from high school, he studied law at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Between 1984 and September 2007 he was head of department in the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs . In October 2007 Goßmann took over the post of social affairs officer for the city of Wiesbaden. In September 2011 he became mayor of the state capital Wiesbaden and department head for health, environment, consumer protection and clinics. After the mayor's election in 2013, the department distribution plan for the state capital Wiesbaden changed, so that Arno Goßmann is now responsible for the department for the environment and social affairs.

Political activity

Goßmann joined the SPD in 1970 and was active in local politics. Until 1992 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. After the SPD was unable to present its candidate for the mayor election on March 13, 2007 due to a failure to meet deadlines and the entire executive committee of the Wiesbaden sub-district resigned, Gossmann took over the chairmanship of the Wiesbaden sub-district. Goßmann resigned from this office in 2012.
