Arnold Federmann (* 1877 in Fischhausen ; † December 29, 1952 in Braunschweig ) was a German writer, art and literary historian.

Life and works

Arnold Federmann was the son of a postal worker and grandson of a tanner. His mother died early. He had two younger sisters, one of whom, Margarete Federmann , became a painter. After a good memory and joy in reciting had proven in his childhood, his "Aunt Pucks", a former educator at the Simson house in Frankfurt am Main and in Königsberg , decided, according to Federmann's own report, to finance him training as a lawyer. As a result, he was sent to high school and later studied law in Königsberg.

Federmann then turned to literature and art and published some fundamental works on this. In 1927 Orell Füssli published his work on Johann Heinrich Füssli in Zurich , followed by Goethe as a visual artist in 1932 , which was published by Cotta . He also wrote a monograph on Johann Heinrich Meyer . In 1936 the book German Conquistadors in South America was published , which also contained a reprint of Nicolaus Federmann's diary , in 1941 he had poems about East Prussia published as a private print , and in 1949 his work Der Junge Goethe und England was published by Erich Schmidt Verlag in Berlin . His childhood memories, to which he wanted to give the title East Prussian Youth , were not printed during his lifetime .

Federmann traveled to Greece, Italy, France, England and Scandinavia, among others. He worked as a lecturer for foreign studies at the Technical University in Berlin-Charlottenburg .
