Arnold Harberger

Arnold Carl Harberger (born July 27, 1924 in Newark , New Jersey , USA ) is an American economist . He is counted in the Chicago School . Today he is Professor Emeritus at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Harberger is married and has two children.

Career

Harberger studied economics at Johns Hopkins University , followed by a master's in international relations in 1947 at the University of Chicago . There he was also awarded a Ph.D. PhD.

In 1997, Harberger was president-elect of the American Economic Association . In 1972 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , in 1989 to the National Academy of Sciences .

research

Harberger is best known for introducing the Harberger triangle into finance . This measures the additional burden of taxation. See also the article tax incidence .
