from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arnold Müller (born August 16, 1856 in Nidau , † February 28, 1928 in Leubringen (Evilard) ) was a forest pioneer and chief forester in Biel and the surrounding area.

Life

At 24, Müller was in 1880 as head forester of Burgerwaldungen of Biel used. Shortly after he was hired, he introduced a new operating mode and initiated business improvements that led to considerable economic success.

Even though he was not directly in the service of the state forest administration as the administrator of the Biel forest forests, Arnold Müller performed both through his work as manager of the extensive Biel forest and the willingness with which he always put his knowledge and skills in the service of the general public, valuable services to the Bernese forestry. Since January 1, 1881, Arnold Müller has been managing the 1760 hectares of forest and pasture owned by the civic community of Biel and over the years has expanded his field of activity by taking over the technical management of the civic forest in Leubringen , Bözingen , Nidau , Vingelz , Tüscherz and Twann . The economic successes in the forests entrusted to him were not only unreservedly recognized in his closer homeland, but also carried his reputation as an exemplary forester far beyond the borders of our country. Forester Müller deserves to be called a pioneer of natural forest management.

Black pines

Müller had black pines imported from the southern Carpathians (Romania) and settled at the southern foot of the Jura. This tree species of the humid and subhumid mountain climate of the Mediterranean region makes little demands on the location, but needs very much light. It was imported to provide timber for industrialization. However, they could not develop properly (no reproduction), so that 120 years later, in 2016, many of the original trees fell victim to the fungus of the Föhrenschütte .

Monuments

A monument with a fountain was erected for him in the Biel forest.
