Arnold Wallraff

Arnold Wallraff (born October 26, 1949 ) is a German economist and lawyer . From 2007 to 2017 he was President of the Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (BAFA).

Life

After graduating from the US Abitur in 1967 in San Diego , California , he passed the German Abitur at the traditional Beethoven Gymnasium in Bonn the following year . From 1968 he studied at the University of Bonn economics with a focus on economics and graduated in 1973 with a diploma from. He then continued his studies in law , in which he received his doctorate in 1975 with a thesis on antitrust law .

From 1976 to 1987 he worked at the Federal Ministry of Economics in the areas of competition policy / antitrust law , research and technology policy , international trade / foreign trade policy , and foreign trade fair policy. In 1983 he was employed in the permanent representation of the Foreign Office at the OECD in Paris. From 1987 to 1990 worked for the Foreign Office - this time for the permanent representation in the GATT office in Geneva.

From 1990 to 1992 he was Head of Competition and Price Control / Regulatory Issues at the Federal Ministry for Post and Telecommunications . From 1992 to 1997 he was economic policy advisor to the Federal Presidents Richard von Weizsäcker and Roman Herzog and head of the economic policy area in the Federal President's Office . In 1997 he switched to business and until 1998 was deputy head of the economic policy group at VEBA AG . In 1999 he was head of education and training policy in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology . From 2007 to 2017 he was President of the Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (BAFA).

In 2011, the Westdeutsche Handwerkskammertag (WHKT) awarded Wallraff, where he is also a member of the project, with the Golden Badge of Honor.

Wallraff is married and has five children.
