Arnoltovice

The castle Arnoltovice (German castle Arnoltowitz ) was located above the village Poličná in the southeast of the Kelčská pahorkatina in the Czech Republic.

geography

The castle was located northeast of Poličná in the locality of Štěpnice on the Němčíkův Kopec, a southern branch of the Junákov, on the left side above the confluence of the Vsetínská Bečva and Rožnovská Bečva to the Bečva .

history

The castle was probably built in the 13th century during the great colonization of the Moravian peripheral areas by the Olomouc bishopric . The father of the episcopal marshal Georgius Arnoltovicz, a knight Arnolt, is considered to be the founder of the castle. His descendant Jeneč or Jan used the predicate de Arnoldisdorf in 1358 and de Arnoltovicz in 1362 . It was first mentioned in a document in 1376. Together with the Schaumburg , Arnoltowitz Castle formed an important base of the diocese in East Moravia in the Middle Ages. The episcopal fiefdom Arnoltowitz included the town of Meziříčí and several surrounding villages. The seat of the lordship was moved to Meziříčí in the middle of the 15th century. The castle became extinct between 1480 and 1504.

Building

Only ground monuments remain from the formerly important complex.
