The convict palsy is a neurological consequence of a fettering of the wrist or upper arm .

From a medical point of view, it is a paralysis of the mid-arm nerve ( median nerve ) or the radial nerve ( radial nerve , → radial paralysis ). It usually manifests itself in a tingling sensation or numbness in the fingers , hand or arm .

Owes its name to the arrest Ante paralysis of the fact that they often occur in people who by the police with handcuffs have been tied up. If the handcuffs are used properly, it should not usually occur. It is usually the result of too tight or too long a bondage.

The symptoms often subside after a few hours or days. In some cases, however, permanent damage can occur.
