Arrieta is a village on the northeast coast of politically to Spain belonging Canary Island of Lanzarote . It belongs there with 918 inhabitants (2013) to the municipality of Haría .
Townscape
Arrieta is known to tourists because of several fish restaurants on the small quayside. There is Canarian cuisine with fresh seafood and fish. The place still has an approximately 800 meter long natural beach, the Playa de La Garita . To the north of it, a jetty leads into the sea, which was used by bathers, but is now in danger of collapsing and is closed. The place has grown significantly since the 1980s. In addition, several apartment buildings were built.
The small chapel Nuestra Señora del Carmen is in Arrieta . The virgin Carmen is the patron saint of fishermen in many places, including Arrieta. Her honor is celebrated for two weeks every year at the end of July. The highlight of the festival is when all the local fishermen go out to sea, during which the statue of the Madonna is taken from the church when the weather is good.
In the roundabout at the entrance to the town stands the wind chimes (called Juguetes del Viento , German: wind chimes ) created in 1992 by the artist and conservationist of Lanzarote, César Manrique . In 2017 it was dismantled and restored with an investment of over 10,000 euros. It has been on the roundabout again since February 16, 2018.
The most striking building is the three-story Blue House ( Casa Juanita ) built around 1920 at the fishing port. There are different stories about the builder and his motivation to build the villa. After the house had stood empty for decades, it housed the African Museum ( Museo de Africa ) from 1995 to 1997 .
In 2008 the Aloe Vera Museum ( Museo de Aloe de Lanzarote ) was opened at the entrance to the village. An overview of the history, cultivation and production of the plant is offered on almost 150 square meters.
