Arsames (Satrap of Cilicia)
Arsames (Persian Aršāma , Greek Ἀρσάμης ; † 333 BC ) was a Persian satrap in the 4th century BC.
Under the rule of the Achaemenids , Arsames officiated as Satrap of Cilicia , presumably as successor in office to Mazaios . In 334 BC He led his cavalry on the left Persian wing in the battle of Granicus against Alexander the great . He managed to escape from the battlefield, but he could not put his capital Tarsus in a state of defense in time because Alexander's army had advanced to Cilicia faster than expected. Arsames fled on to Syria, where he joined the army of the great king Dareios III. connected. In the battle of Issus in 333 BC He was killed.
Cilicia fell to Alexander, who appointed General Balakros as his satrap.
