Art Ringger

Art Ringger (born June 17, 1946 in Zurich ) is a Swiss photo engineer, satirist and illustrator.

Life

He grew up in Zurich, where he attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts from 1963 to 1966, where he graduated from the photography class with a thesis on photomontages, in particular on John Heartfield . This was followed by several assistant positions in Vienna, Paris and London. In 1969/70 he worked as a fashion photographer for the fashion magazine Elle , before illustrating texts in 1970 with his photo montages in the then still young Tages-Anzeiger magazine .

From then on, he specialized entirely in photomontages , with which he supplied almost the entire Swiss press, but also German, Austrian and French publications. In addition, he had numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. In 1979 he received the Federal Art Scholarship .

In 1993 he took part in the German Photo Days in Frankfurt and the International Photo Scene in Cologne . In 1997 he designed the stage set for Ruedi Häusermanns Rest Frohsinn at the Neumarkt Theater , designed the logo and worked as an actor. In 1998 he and the actor Herwig Ursin developed the short piece ExPoPo for the Neumarkt Theater, which was later performed in various locations in the run-up to Expo.01 . From 1999 to 2003 he published the full-page photo satire Demontage every week in the Swiss news magazine Facts .

"The computer, which in itself is a wonderful tool, now made it possible for everyone to do photo montages. As a result, the quality sank into the abyss. This took away the desire to continue with my work and so I have been cultivating my olive grove near Tortosa in Catalonia since 2010. " .
