Art Technology Group, Inc. (ATG) was an independent internet technology company specializing in e-commerce and on-demand optimization applications. ATG was acquired by Oracle on January 5, 2011 . ATG is still based in Cambridge , Massachusetts and operates under its own name as a subsidiary of Oracle. ATG solutions provide merchandising, marketing, content personalization, automated recommendations and live support services.

Company history and acquisitions

The ATG was founded in 1991 by Jeet Singh and Joseph Chung, both graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology ). Until 1996, the company provided consulting services for building websites from the beginning of the Internet era. In 1997/98 it developed into a software company that offered several products, including an e-commerce platform and an application server.

After going public in 1999, ATG 2000–2003 focused on commercial applications, that is to say on business applications for sales promotion, content management, marketing and analysis. At the same time, she concentrated on the industry standard with application servers from IBM , BEA (Oracle) and WildFly (Red Hat).

In 2004, ATG acquired Primus Knowledge Solutions in a controversial acquisition that closed on November 1, 2004. In the following years she took over other companies such as Stara, a provider of Click-t-Call, chat and call tracking solutions (2006), CleverSet (2008, the transaction will be completed on February 6, 2008) and InstantService (2010, the transaction will close on January 12, 2010). The latter two companies were privately owned at the time of the takeover.

In 2005 ATG completed the integration of Primus applications on the ATG Web Marketing and E-Commerce software platform. In 2010, Oracle Corporation and ATG agreed to start the acquisition process of ATG by Oracle. The announcement of the acquisition agreement was published on November 2, 2010. Oracle closed the acquisition on January 5, 2011 for an estimated $ 1 billion, or $ 6.00 per share.
