Appendicular artery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The appendicular artery is an artery that the appendix ( vermiform appendix ) supplied with blood.

Origin and course

The appendicular artery arises at the level of the ileocecal valve either directly or from a branch ( ramus ilealis or arteria caecalis posterior ) of the arteria ileocolica , descends behind the terminal ileum and opens into the mesenteriolum ( mesoappendix ), a separate mesentery of the appendage. Several side branches branch off from the appendix artery, which supply the wall of the appendix with blood.
