Arteria pancreatica dorsalis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The arteria pancreatica dorsalis ("back pancreatic artery ") is an artery in the human abdominal cavity and is involved in the blood supply to the pancreas . In about 40% of individuals it arises from the initial segment of the splenic artery , in 20% from the initial segment of the hepatic artery , in 22% from the celiac trunk and in 14% from the upper mesenteric artery .

The dorsal pancreatic artery divides into three larger branches: The transverse pancreatic artery extends to the back of the pancreas and anastomoses there with the great pancreatic artery . The other two branches lead to the head and hook process (uncinate process) of the pancreas.
