The median sacral artery ("central cross artery") is an artery in the abdominal cavity . It is unpaired and arises from the abdominal aorta in the area of ​​its bifurcation. The median sacral artery runs on the ventral side of the sacrum and ends in humans in the area of ​​the coccyx . It also supplies the vertebral canal via small branches and anastomoses with the iliolumbar artery . In animals, it continues into the median caudal artery , which is the main vessel of the tail .
