Arthur Aron

Arthur Aron (born July 2, 1945 in Stony Brook , New York , United States ) is a professor of psychology at the State University of New York in Stony Brook . He is best known for his research on intimacy in interpersonal relationships and developing the self-expansion model of motivation in close relationships.

Life

Arthur Aron received a bachelor's degree in psychology and philosophy in 1967 and a master's degree in social psychology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1968 . In 1970 he received his PhD in social psychology from AJ Arrowood at the University of Toronto .

In his work, he focused on establishing and maintaining friendship and intimacy in interpersonal relationships. He developed the self-expansion model of close relationships. In it he postulates that one of the motivations for establishing close relationships is to expand one's self or personal growth and development.

Private life

Aron is married to the psychologist Elaine Aron .
