Arthur Dong
Arthur E. Dong (* 1953 in San Francisco , California ) is an American film producer , film director , screenwriter and film editor .
Career
Arthur Dong received his bachelor's degree with summa cum laude from San Francisco State University in 1982 . Dong's career in the film business began in 1970 with his short film Public, for which he wrote the screenplay, was responsible as a producer and director. The film, which is fully animated, uses images and text in sequence and was produced on a low budget, less than 50 US dollars. With his second documentary Sewing Woman , which tells the story of his mother after entering the USA and her cultural change, Dong received an Oscar nomination in the category “ best documentary short film ” at the 1984 Academy Awards . The award went to Cynthia Scott and Adam Symansky for their contribution Flamenco at 5:15 . In another film festival was Sewing Woman awards, including at the Chicago International Film Festival .
From 1991 to 1992 Dong was responsible for thirteen documentaries for the station PBS . For the documentary Coming Out Under Fire (1994), in which veterans report on homosexuality during World War II and the American actress Salome Jens can be heard as voiceover , Dong received a Teddy Award , a Peabody Award and at the Sundance Film Festival 1994 the "Special Jury Recognition". This was followed by other documentaries dealing with the LGBT issue. Hugh Hefner was involved in the 1997 production Licensed to Kill , which confronts murderers who have murdered people with a homosexual background . Other films were Family Fundamentals which 2002 and The Killing Fields of Dr. Haing S. Ngor published in 2015.
In 1982 Arthur Dong founded Deep Focus Production and has been its chairman.
