Arthur Eden

Arthur Eden-Sillenstede (born March 25, 1899 in Sillenstede , Germany , † November 3, 1977 ) was a German painter .

Life

After attending primary school in Sillenstede and an apprenticeship in painting in Jever , Arthur Eden studied for three years as a full-time student at the educational institution of the Museum of Applied Arts in Berlin , department of decorative painting - one of the predecessor institutions of today's Berlin University of the Arts .

Very early on, he devoted himself to free painting, his first oil paintings were made in 1914. To secure his livelihood, he also worked as a painter-craftsman (master craftsman examination 1924). For example, he restored the princely gallery in the Jever Castle Museum and left his signature there. After giving up the painting business in 1961, he worked exclusively as a painter until shortly before his death. Eden-Sillenstede stood out in particular with motifs of the Frisian landscape, as well as a portraitist.

Since 1948 he was a member of the Bund Bildender Künstler - Gruppe Oldenburg. There is an "Arthur-Eden-Platz" in Sillenstede and an "Arthur-Eden-Straße" in Jever.
