Arthur Gerstner

Arthur Gerstner-Hirzel (* 1920 ; † before 1979 ) was a Swiss English student .

Life and work

Gerstner received his doctorate in 1957 from the University of Basel with the work The Economy of Action and Word in Shakespeare’s Plays . He coined the term syntax of stage pictures in Shakespeare research.

Gerstner was married to the folklorist and philologist Emily Gerstner-Hirzel .
