Arthur Hind

Arthur Hind (born February 4, 1856 in Bradford , † 1933 in Miami ) was an American industrialist and philatelist .

Hind was an industrialist in the textile industry and had a very valuable stamp collection. He only really started collecting when he emigrated from England to the USA in 1890. In 1922 he acquired the Bordeaux Letter from Alfred F. Lichtenstein for 7,500 British pounds . From the collection of Philipp von Ferrary he also acquired the one-time British Guiana 1 ¢ magenta in 1922 at the record price at the time for $ 36,000, which would be equivalent to $ 547,917.78 today. His widow sold the brand for $ 40,000 in 1940, which would be $ 727,523.56 today.
