Arthur William Acland Hood, 1st Baron Hood of Avalon GCB (born July 14, 1824 in Bath , Somerset , † November 16, 1901 in Glastonbury , Somerset) was an admiral in the British Royal Navy .

Life

He belonged to the famous Hood family , who produced many great figures in the Royal Navy. He was the third son of Sir Alexander Hood, 2nd Baronet, grandson of Captain Alexander Hood, and a great-nephew of the famous Admiral Sir Samuel Hood, 1st Baronet . He was First Sea Lord from 1885 to 1886 and from 1886 to 1889 . In 1886 he was promoted to admiral . On February 23, 1892, he was raised as Baron Hood of Avalon , in the County of Somerset , to a peer , which a seat in the House of Lords was connected.

Since 1855 he was married to Fanny Henrietta Maclean († 1915), daughter of Sir Charles Maclean, 9th Baronet. With her he had two daughters. Since he left no sons, his title of nobility expired on his death in 1901.
