Hans von Hopfen
Hans Demetrius Hopfen , from 1888 Knight von Hopfen , (born January 3, 1835 in Munich as Hans Mayer , † November 19, 1904 in Groß-Lichterfelde [today Berlin ]) was a German writer .
Life
Hans Mayer was the son of the dancer and actress Angelotta Mayer (1807–1880), daughter of the imperial and royal senior physician Karl Mayer , who was later ennobled as Mayer von Lindenthal, and Wilhelmine Therese Ronchi Edle von Löwenfeld . At the age of 10, he was recognized by his father, Simon Hopfen , a Jewish merchant. Hans Hopfen studied law and history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1853 to 1858 . In 1854 he became a member (later honorary member) of the Corps Franconia Munich .
He left the civil service of the Kingdom of Bavaria soon after his legal clerkship . He began with the publication of the first songs and ballads in the Munich poet book edited by Emanuel Geibel (1862) and became a member of the Munich poet circle . He earned the reputation of a talented romantic at the age of 25 with his poems . The powerful ballad of the Sendlinger Bauernschlacht is a highlight of his work. His humorous farmer's novel The Old Intern was also widely known . Josef Viktor Widmann pays tribute to hops in Rector Müslin's Italiänische Reise (1881): “Dear Bellano ! You are the humble, noble artist whom few know and appreciate; Bellaggio is an artist who made a name for himself in his youth through good works; since then he's gotten really bad and smears on it; but its shimmering name still dazzles the crowd, as Hans Hopfen so gracefully described in his lovely story: 'Ming's Brush'. "(p. 26 f.)
Hopfen went on an educational trip to Venice in 1862 . In 1863 he went to Paris and in 1864 to Vienna , where he soon became close to Franz Grillparzer .
In 1865/66 he was General Secretary of the German Schiller Foundation in Vienna under the presidency of Paul Heyse . From 1866 he lived as a freelance writer in Berlin . In the Year of Three Emperors hops from Prince Regent was Luitpold of Bavaria ennobled .
Hopfen also gained importance as a leading figure in the Association of Old Corps Students (VAC) founded in 1888 , of which he was chairman from 1895 until his death. After taking office, he presented the plan to erect a corps student memorial to Prince Otto von Bismarck for his 80th birthday at the Rudelsburg . He was able to lay the foundation stone on June 25th . In 1897 he founded the Teltower AHSC in Berlin .
