Arthur Levysohn (born March 23, 1841 in Grünberg in Silesia , † April 11, 1908 in Meran ) was a German journalist .

He is the son of the bookseller Wilhelm Levysohn . He began his journalistic career at the Kölnische Zeitung as a Viennese correspondent. Later he went to Paris. In 1870 he was head of the "Moniteur de Versailles" for a short time and then found a job with the "Neue Wiener Tageblatt".

Rudolf Mosse hired him in 1876 for the Berliner Tageblatt . There he was initially head of the department for foreign policy, then from 1881 until his illness-related departure in 1906 as editor-in-chief. At the same time, he was editor-in-chief of the German Monday newspaper , which later became the Monday edition of the Berliner Tageblatt with the supplement '' Der Zeitgeist '' . He knew how to tie many young talents to the newspaper and is considered a supporter of Theodor Herzl , Fritz Mauthner , Hermann Sudermann , Walther Gotheils and Julius Stindes . Under the direction of Arthur Levysohn, the newspaper soon developed into a leading newspaper in the liberal direction. He introduced the overview articles of the "Politische Wochenschau", which were later continued by Paul Michaelis and Friedrich Dernburg . He spent 99 days in prison for insulting Bismarck. Theodor Wolff was his successor . Levysohn was u. a. friends and correspondence with Bertha von Suttner and Theodor Herzl.
