Arthur Osann (born November 4, 1829 in Gießen , † September 30, 1908 in Darmstadt ; full name Arthur Friedrich Gotthard Wilhelm Johannes Osann ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Arthur Osann was the son of the classical philologist Friedrich Gotthilf Osann (1794-1858) and his wife Friederike Osann nee. Klunk. His father was a childhood friend of the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer .

Osann attended the Gießen high school and from 1847 the universities of Gießen and Bonn , where he also received his doctorate in 1850 . From 1861 he worked as a lawyer in Darmstadt. In 1862 he became a lawyer and procurator at the Darmstadt court . In 1880 he was admitted to the bar at the Darmstadt Regional Court and the Darmstadt Higher Regional Court .

From 1875 to 1899 he was a member of the II. Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse as a representative of the constituency of Starkenburg 14 / Groß-Gerau and a city ​​councilor in Darmstadt since 1875. He was also chairman of the state committee of the National Liberal Party in the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

From 1890 to 1898 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the National Liberal Party for the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesse 4 ( Darmstadt , Groß-Gerau ).

Osann married Anna Helene Auguste born on August 2, 1860. Oven (1836-1914). He was the father of the politician and lawyer Arthur Osann (1862-1924).

Osann received an honorary grave from the city of Darmstadt in the old cemetery . The Osannstraße in Darmstadt is named after him.
