Arthur Schneider (archaeologist)

Arthur Schneider (born February 2, 1861 in Leipzig , † August 25, 1905 in Steinach, Tyrol ) was a German classical archaeologist .

After attending the Nikolaischule in Leipzig, Schneider studied art history and classical archeology in Munich , Berlin and Leipzig from 1881 to 1886 . In 1885 he received his doctorate at the University of Leipzig with the thesis The troic saga circle in the oldest Greek art . 1887–1888 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . In Leipzig he also received his habilitation in 1890 with the work Prolegomena for a new gallery of heroic images . Until 1896 he was a private lecturer for classical archeology, from 1896 to 1905 he was an associate professor for classical archeology and topography at the University of Leipzig.
