Arthur Wellington Sweeney (born May 20, 1909 in Dublin , † December 27, 1940 in Takoradi , Ghana ) was a British sprinter .

At the British Empire Games in London in 1934 , he won over 100 yards , 220 yards and with the English 4-by-110-yard relay.

In 1936 he reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Berlin over 100 m and was eliminated over 200 m in the preliminary run.

At the European Athletics Championships in Paris in 1938 he was fifth over 100 m and won bronze with the British team in the 4 x 100 meter relay .

He was twice English champion over 100 yards (1935, 1939) and 220 yards (1936, 1937).

He died in a plane crash.
