Arthur Wontner
Arthur Wontner ( January 21, 1875 in London , England - July 10, 1960 ) was a British actor .
Life
The tall, imperious-looking Wontner made his first stage experiences in 1897 and came to film in 1915. He became particularly famous for his cautious interpretation of the detective Sherlock Holmes in five films made between 1931 and 1938. The widow Arthur Conan Doyles called him the actor who came closest to the original. He later switched to supporting roles.
