Arthur Wolkenstein-Rodenegg , pseudonym: Arthur von Rodank (born January 4, 1837 in Silz ; † June 14, 1907 in Innsbruck ) was a writer, politician and representative of the Tyrolean counts of the Wolkenstein family .

life and work

Arthur Karl Marie Leonhard, Reichsgraf zu Wolkenstein, Freiherr zu Rodenegg, Salegg and Hauenstein, lord and farmer in Tyrol, kk chamberlain, knight of the Franz Joseph Order, was the youngest son of Count Ernst Friedrich von Wolkenstein (1799-1870) and the Maria Anna von Spaur and Flavon was born at Petersberg Castle , which was owned by the Wolkenstein family from 1777 to 1893. After graduating from high school, he joined the 3rd Austrian Cuirassier Regiment, but illness soon forced him to give up his military career. In the following time he devoted himself to the administration of his assets, especially agriculture. From 1875 to 1878 he acted as president of the horse breeding commission in Tyrol, and later was president of the North Tyrolean agricultural cooperative. He also held the position of a consultant for the Tyrolean aristocratic registers for a while. In 1870, Count Wolkenstein was sent from the landowners to the Tyrolean state parliament, where he joined the liberal party. With a decree of October 8, 1878, he was appointed Deputy Governor and in 1881 he was elected to the Reichsrat. For a time, Wolkenstein sat as a substitute for Count Melchiori in the regional committee. For many years, Wolkenstein was the chief rifle master of the state main shooting range, even at the time when the second Austrian federal shooting was held in Innsbruck. In addition to his class and professional duties, he devoted himself to literature. As early as 1877 he went public with his literary works. In May of that year, under director Heinrich von Othegraven, the five-act historical comedy “Die Maultasch” was performed to great acclaim in the Hof-Nationaltheater zu Innsbruck for the benefit of the Bolzano Waltherdenkmalfonds. Ernst Freiherr von Tschiderer wrote the music for it. His other poetic works came under the pseudonym Arthur von Rodank in the public. Under this name he wrote eight historical novels, all of which take place in old Tyrol. Arthur Wolkenstein-Rodenegg was married to Amalie Burlo von Ehrwall, who gave birth to two children, Arthur Ernst and Wolfgang Anton Leonhard. He was the owner of the lordship of St. Petersberg, Oberst-Erbland-Stallmeister and Oberst-Erbland-Vorneider in the County of Tyrol, kk, treasurer and advisor to the Tyrolean nobility register. His residence changed between Tyrol and Purkersdorf near Vienna until he moved permanently to Innsbruck at the end of 1906. He died here on June 14, 1907. His body was brought to the Rodeneck headquarters in Rienztal and buried in the local parish cemetery.
