The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 77th time in 1961/62 . The most important football cup competition in Scottish club football was directed and hosted by the Scottish Football Association. He started on 9 December 1961, ended with the final on 21 April 1962 at Hampden Park of Glasgow . As the defending champion, Dunfermline Athletic started the competition, which was able to secure the title in the final against Celtic Glasgow in the final last year . In this year's Scottish Cup final, the Glasgow Rangers and FC St. Mirren faced each other. For the Rangers it was the 24th final since 1877 . The Saints reached the finals for the fifth time after 1908 , 1926 , 1934 and 1959 . The Rangers won the final 2-0, winning the Scottish FA Cup for the 16th time in the club's history since they first won in 1894 . The Icelander Þórólfur Beck played for the first time in history a non- English native speaker in a Scottish Cup final. Despite an audience of 127,940 in the final, the record visits to Hampden Park from 1937 of 149,415 and 146,433 were not achieved. In the 1961/62 season , Dundee FC was the first Scottish champions . The Rangers were runner-up, the Saints were third from bottom and only remained first class because of the direct duel against FC St. Johnstone . In the League Cup , the Rangers won the final against Heart of Midlothian . As cup winners, the Rangers took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup the following season , and were eliminated in the second round against the eventual winners, Tottenham Hotspur .
