Artie Bernstein

Arthur "Artie" Bernstein (* 4. February 1909 in Brooklyn , New York City ; † 4. January 1964 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz bassist of Swing .

Artie Bernstein was a lawyer at times, but soon became a sought-after bass player until he became a professional musician in 1930. First he worked in 1931/32 with Red Nichols , from 1932 to 1934 with the Dorsey Brothers and from 1939 to 1941 with Benny Goodman in his sextet and septet. Since then he has been employed as a studio musician in Los Angeles . Bernstein was also on recordings of Jack Teagarden (1931–33), Eddie Condon , Adrian Rollini / Frankie Trumbauer 1934, Billie Holiday 1936, Teddy Wilson , Bert Shefter 1937, Maxine Sullivan 1937/38, Lionel Hampton , 1939–41, the Metronome All-Stars involved , Red Norvo in 1945, Cootie Williams in 1941 and Sonny Berman in 1946.

In 1943 Bernstein won the readers poll for the jazz magazine Down Beat .
