Artigas Barrios
Artigas Barrios (born July 7, 1937 in Lascano , Rocha ) is a Uruguayan politician .
life and career
Barrios, married to Mercedes Lasso and father of six children, has been a member of the Partido Socialista del Uruguay since 1958 and is therefore a member of the Frente Amplio . In the Rocha Department he was one of the founders of this party alliance.
In 1989 he ran initially unsuccessfully as a member of the Cámara de Representantes . In a further candidacy in 1999, he finally emerged successfully from the election and was parliamentary representative of his home department for the legislative period from 2000 to 2005.
In May 2005, he also won the election of Intendente of this department, making him the first representative of the Frente Amplio to hold this position in Rocha. In 2010 he was re-elected for a second five-year term.
