Artsakh Air (also Artsakhavia ) is a Nagorno-Karabakh airline based in Stepanakert and based at Stepanakert Airport there . It plans to connect the de facto independent Republic of Artsakh (formerly: Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh), which belongs to Azerbaijan under international law , but is predominantly inhabited by Armenians , with Armenia . It is owned by the Nagorno-Karabakh de facto government.

history

Since Nagorno-Karabakh is not recognized as a state, the airline would have to be registered in accordance with international conventions via Azerbaijan. However, Azerbaijan has so far refused to do so and has also announced that flights from Yerevan to Stepanakert could be shot down. According to international conventions, Armenia would also be forced to take action against the airline in the event of the unauthorized start of flight operations.

The then Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced in 2012 that he wanted to be one of the airline's first passengers.
