Artur Beneken

Artur Beneken (born April 1, 1939 in Wesermünde, now Bremerhaven ) was City Councilor of Bremerhaven from 1999 to 2015 .

Life and work

Beneken comes from a family of farmers who have been living in Wulsdorf , now a district of Bremerhaven, since 1499 . He attended the Wilhelm Raabe School in Bremerhaven and began training at Stadtwerke Bremerhaven AG in 1956. In 1974 he became an authorized signatory of Bremerhaven Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft GmbH and its subsidiaries Verkehrsgesellschaft Bremerhaven AG and Stadtwerke Bremerhaven AG. From 1991 to 1999 he was the management spokesman and chairman of the board of these three companies. Beneken managed the municipal baths and the Weser ferry through other group companies.

Beneken is married and has two children.

In 1970 Beneken joined the SPD . In 1999 he was elected to the Bremerhaven city council and was elected head of the city council. He held this office until 2015.

Beneken has been a member of the Organizing Committee of Sail Bremerhaven since 1986 , which he headed in 2010 and 2015.

Honor

Beneken was awarded the Gold Cross of Honor of the German Armed Forces in 2004.
