Artur Bethke

Artur Bethke (born July 29, 1934 in Resehl , Naugard district ) is professor emeritus for Nordic studies and former rector of the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald .

Life

The son of a farmer did his Abitur at the workers and farmers faculty in Greifswald. In 1955 he joined the SED and studied Nordic studies in Greifswald from 1957 to 1962. After a doctorate in 1967 and a habilitation in 1977, Bethke was appointed full professor of Nordic studies in Greifswald.

During the fall of the Wall , Bethke became Deputy Minister for Higher and Technical Schools in the GDR, but returned to Greifswald in 1990 and took early retirement in 1991.
