Arturo Jauretche (born November 13, 1901 in Lincoln , † May 25, 1974 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine journalist, politician and writer .

Life

Arturo Jauretche had been politically interested and engaged since his youth and was appointed secretary of the Conservative Party of Argentina in 1919. He later moved to the Unión Civica Radical as part of President Hipólito Yrigoyens . When he was overthrown by General José Félix Uriburu in 1930 , many of his supporters gathered underground and in 1933 initiated an uprising in which Jauretche also participated. This revolution failed and Jauretche was taken to Corrientes prison with some of his friends .

During his imprisonment, Jauretche wrote his “El paso de los libros”, which he wrote in the style of gaucho literature . In 1935 he founded together with Homero Manzi u. a. the Fuerza de Orientación de la Joven Argentina (FORJA) to give Yrigoyen and its politics an unmistakable mouthpiece. This political work led to friendship and collaboration with Juan Perón , who entrusted him in 1947 with the management of the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires .

From 1951 Jauretche could not and did not want to follow the politics of Perón ( Peronism ) and resigned from his offices. This resulted in a writing ban in the following year . After the fall of Perón, he founded the politically oriented newspaper "El 45", which Eduardo Lonardi banned again. Jauretche went into exile in Uruguay and worked there a. a. as a journalist. He founded the newspaper "El Líder" and wrote regularly for the newspaper " La Opinión ", for example. Sometimes very polemical articles. According to a rumor , Jauretche had to duel with an officer in 1971 (at the age of 70) because of such an article.

Jauretche returned to Buenos Aires shortly before his death. In 1973 he was appointed managing director of the university publisher EUDEBA. He died in his hometown at the age of 73 and found his final resting place there.
