Arwid Ivanovich Kubbel ( Russian Арвид Иванович Куббель ; born November 12, 1889 in Saint Petersburg , † January 11, 1938 in Leningrad ) was a Soviet chess player.

Arwid was a brother of Yevgeny and Leonid Kubbel . In October 1920 he took part in the first all-Russian championship in Moscow. He published around 500 compositions of the Bohemian School , mainly Dreizüger. During the Stalinist purges , he was arrested on 21 November 1937, on January 11, 1938 shot . The arrest was kept secret and later spread the false report that he in a Siberian gulag in nephritis had died.

His best historical Elo rating was 2598 in December 1925. With this number, he would be in 20th place in the subsequently calculated world rankings.
