Asaël is the name of four people in the Old Testament .

etymology

The Hebrew personal name עֲשָׂהאֵל 'ǎśā'el , German ' Asaël ' is a verb sentence name, consisting of subject and predicate. The subject and at the same time theophoric element is אֵל 'el "God", the predicate goes back to the verb root עֲשָׂה ' śh "make / do / act". The name therefore means "God acted / made". In the context of naming after the birth of a child, this name refers to the fact that the bearer of the name was created by God. Thus the name bearer is seen as part of the whole creation.

Personal names with the predicate עֲשָׂה 'śh "make" are widespread, other examples are עֲשָׂיָה ' ǎśājāh Asaja (" YHWH has made"), אֶלְעָשָׂה 'el'ǎśā Elasa, יַעֲשִׂיאֵל ja'ǎśî'el Jaasiël and עֲשִׂיאֵל ' ǎśî'el Asiëë ל 'ǎśî .el Asiël (the latter three “God made”), יַעֲשֹׂו ja'ǎśô Jaaso ( K. ) or יַעֲשַׂי ja'ǎśaj Jaasai ( Q. ) (“(God) made”). The name Elasa is completely synonymous with Asaël, subject and predicate are just in a different order.

The Septuagint gives the name as Άσαέλ asael , the Vulgate as Asahel .
